about

Errol Dyers, the composer of Langery is generally credited together with Dollar Brand, Basil Coetzee and Robbie Jansen et al for maturing the 'Goema' sound from a mix of traditional 'langarm' and 'klopse' (carnival) tunes to a fully-fledged jazz genre. How many towns are there in the world that have their own completely unique jazz form like Cape Town? Errol is from a respected Cape Town family of musicians, including his brother Alvin who also teaches at the Jazz Workshop. Langery brings back Errol's childhood memories of a row of houses and of playing in a park in Princes Street, Harfield Village, before his family was forcibly removed from their home.
